In 2011 a round table of 19 diverse experts found causal links between issues of family planning, women’s enablement, population size, food security and climate change. Family planning was identified as being crucial in Australia’s response to the UN Millennium Development Goals. Experts had considered perspectives of science (environmental and medical), religions, cultural beliefs and traditions which guide behaviour and government policies, as well as barriers to acceptance of overt funding, program design and delivery, public understanding and political imperatives.
