Catalysts for Peace

Macquarie University 2015 International Women’s Day

On 5 March, WPF participated in an evening of creativity and inspiring discussion in celebration of International Women’s Day 2015 hosted by The Macquarie Equity and Diversity Unit, in partnership with Hunters Hill Rotary.

Keynote speaker was the Chinese Deputy Consul-General Ms Tang Ying talking about the Beijing +20 review and the blueprint for advancing women’s rights developed in 1995 at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women. Panelists were Miriam Lieberman, Sydney singer/songwriter performing on 12-string kora, Vera Sistenich, a specialist emergency physician and Harvard Research Associate, and Patricia Garcia, international development worker in conflict zones worldwide.

Women’s Plans Foundation was one of 20+ organisations taking a table to showcase its purpose and activities to the 200 attendees including many University students.  Other tables represented Sydney’s key women’s activist networks.

The theme – Being Catalysts for Peace Building – was chosen to tie in with the 20th anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995.
